Bedford County supervisors have agreed on a budget proposal
Bedford County supervisors have agreed on a budget proposal that could provide a 185-thousand dollar surplus. That's if, as anticipated, additional money comes from the state. The board is slated to take a final vote on the budget on April 12. 20 vacant positions won’t be filled and employees won’t get raises. There are slight increases for public safety, government administration, the courts and community development. Money would go down a bit for health and welfare, public works, and the recreational and cultural departments. Most supervisors are not going along with a plan to close two elementary schools. But Superintendent Douglas Schuch is encouraged by new state numbers and hopes additional money from the state would preserve the schools.
