LU has record fundraising year
Liberty University has raised a record $22 million from donors in the first year since founder Jerry Falwell's death, more than double the record $9 million raised the previous fiscal year. The fiscal year started July 1, 2007, about six weeks after Falwell's death, and ended June 30. Tom Arnold, the Christian university's director of planned giving, said some gifts are made with restrictions on how the money can be spent, but most are unrestricted. Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said Liberty is investing the unrestricted gifts in new construction projects and building the school's endowment.
