Appalachian Trail shooting suspect found dead
An autopsy will be done in Roanoke on the man who had been charged with a double shooting in Giles County along the Appalachian Trail. Jail guards say they tried to revive Randall Smith late Saturday afternoon, but was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. Those close to Smith say he was despondent that he was being pinned for the recent shootings. More than 20 years ago, he was convicted of murdering two other people from Maine along the same trail.
