Amherst Co. deputies cleared in man's death
Amherst County sheriff’s deputies have been cleared of criminal wrongdoing in the death of a suspect in custody three years ago. 28-year-old Sanchez Taylor died after struggling with deputies outside Bethel Welding on Route 29 in June 2005. The coroner ruled Taylor’s death a homicide with cocaine abuse and heart disease as contributing factors. A special prosecutor has ruled that the deputies acted within department policy and did not intend to kill Taylor. Taylor’s mother has filed a 15-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit against the deputies.
